September 20, 2011
After devastating fire, company makes multi-million dollar investment and commitment to community
Berenfield Containers, a leading manufacturer of steel and fibre shipping containers, has announced the purchase of a 112,000 square foot facility in Warren, PA. The new plant, once owned by Rexnord Industries, is receiving a multi-million dollar refurbishing and will soon produce Berenfield’s line of new 55 gallon and intermediate size steel drums. All manufacturing operations from its Clarendon, Pa. plant are moving to the Warren facility, located at 304 Main Ave., just six miles away. According to company officials, the move is part of the firm’s overall growth strategy, and demonstrates its solid commitment to both the steel drum industry and its Pennsylvania origins.
“World-class manufacturing, quality and sustainability will continue to guide us as we move forward with this environmentally greener plant,” said Len Berenfield, chief executive officer and president of the company. “Our roots in the Warren area run deep, with my family operating here since 1933, so we are very pleased that we are able to re-build.”
Last year, the main portion of Berenfield’s Clarendon facility was destroyed by fire but customers experienced no interruption of service thanks to the company’s network of manufacturing plants in Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina and Arkansas.
